Jan Ray is bringing Pilates to Carlisle!
Pilates is a system of strengthening and stretching exercises designed to develop the body’s core, mobilize the spine and build flexibility in your body. Many types of people at many levels of fitness, say they have seen improvements in range of motion, flexibility, circulation, posture, and abdominal strength and a decrease in back, neck and joint pain.
The benefits of the Pilates system are 1) Body Awareness; training your mind and building symmetry and coordination in your body. 2) A Stronger Core; stronger, healthy back and body and in-time a flatter midsection. The core musculature is defined as the spine, abdomen, pelvis, hips and the muscles that support your body. 3) Body Control; getting a great degree of satisfaction. Movement training is a great way to manage pain and non-weight-bearing exercises. All exercises are done with control, the muscles working to lift against gravity and the resistance of the springs in the equipment. Pilates can be done even by those struggling with pain. Pilates exercises can be adjusted to each person’s abilities; therefore good for all.
Pilates uses a series of controlled movements performed on specially designed spring-resistant exercise apparatus or on the floor. Pilates is not aerobic, although the heart rate will certainly rise for a deconditioned individual. You will concentrate on your body movements and your breathing to achieve that perfect Pilates movement.
Classes will be at the Parks and Recreation Building starting June 2nd to July 30th, 2015 every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00PM.
