From Metro Waste Authority:
Jump On In – Then Get Leaves in the Bag by December 1!
Wondering what to do this weekend? How about jumping in a big pile of freshly raked leaves? Yard waste curbside collection ends December 1, so it’s time to put yard cleanup on your weekend warrior list!
In addition to leaves… brush, grass clippings and garden waste are all accepted through the Compost It! program. Yard waste can be collected curbside by using Compost It! bags, stickers or bundles.
Here is how to use your Compost It! bags and stickers:
- Compost It! bags: No sticker required. The cost of the bag covers the cost of collection.
- Generic or store-brand bags: Compost It! sticker required. The sticker covers the cost of collection.
- Brush bundles: Attach Compost It! sticker to each bundle. Bundles can be no larger than 4 feet long and 18 inches in diameter.
Bags and stickers are sold at many local grocery, home improvement and convenience stores. A complete list of vendors is available at www.WhereItShouldGo.com/BagsStickers.
Compost It! yard waste carts are also collected at the curb through December 1.
If you have more leaves fall after the season ends, don’t worry. Winter collection occurs the first two weeks in 2018, from January 2 through January 12. During winter collection, live Christmas trees along with yard waste, will be collected.
A second disposal option, aside from curbside pickup, is to bring yard waste to the Metro Park East Landfill. Yard waste is accepted at Metro Park East year-round for composting.
The following communities participate in Compost It!: Altoona, Bondurant, Carlisle, Clive, Des Moines, Grimes, Johnston, Norwalk, Pleasant Hill, Polk City, Urbandale, West Des Moines and Windsor Heights.
